Week 3: Faith that Works (Ephesians 2:1-10)
This week as you read each passage, take a couple of minutes to meditate on the passage. A couple of ideas: focus on what you believe to be the key word in the passage or insert your name in place of any pronouns making the passage more personal as you read. Next, ask these following 9 questions (acronym S.P.A.C.E.P.E.T.S.) of the passage to see if there is any action you should take in response to God's Word. Remember, we have a Faith that Works!

  • Sin to confess?
  • Promise to claim?
  • Attitude to change?
  • Command to keep?
  • Example to follow?
  • Prayer to pray?

Week 1: Blessed to Be a Blessing (Ephesians 1:1-14)
Week 1 | Day 1
Read Ephesians 1:1-3

Observation/Interpretation: Because of the 'spiritual blessings' Ephesians 1 speaks about we find that we are rich, spiritually speaking, in Christ. Spend a moment meditating on the idea of 'every spiritual blessing.' Journal how that impacts your life.
Application: The Big Idea this week's passage is we are Blessed (by God) to be a Blessing (to God). Ask God to reveal to you an area He has blessed you with (talent, skill, resources, relationship, etc.) that you can begin to use to bless and glorify Him.

Week 1 | Day 2
Read Ephesians 1:4-6

Observation/Interpretation: In the beginning of this very long sentence, Paul names just a few of the blessings that make up our spiritual wealth. In your Bible, underline the blessings and 'riches' we have from God the Father. Circle and spend a moment thinking about the blessing that means the most to you today.
Application: God has accepted us even though we were not acceptable. Acceptance is often the greatest need each youth and adult needs today. Who can you extend acceptance to today? Ask God to give you an opportunity to bless Him by blessing someone else through your acceptance.

Week 1 | Day 3
Read Ephesians 1:7-12

Observation/Interpretation: God the Son has blessed us richly as described in this passage. Again underline those rich, spiritual blessings we have received as Christ-followers. Circle the one that you feel makes you the wealthiest spiritually and write a definition of that blessing as you think about that blessing.
Application: Whether in conversation, through an email, on a blog, or other form of communication, how can you share how one of these blessings as impacted your life to another person?

Week 1 | Day 4
Read Ephesians 1:13-14

Observation/Interpretation: A seal (v. 13) and a guarantee/earnest (v. 14) are terms used to speak of our salvation in Christ and are also terms used in daily life. List the parallels for these terms between our relationship with God and business/daily life.
Application: Spend time in personal worship and praise to our Heavenly Father His work to seal and guarantee your salvation.

Week 1 | Day 5
Read Ephesians 1:1-14

Observation/Interpretation: Highlight or underline what you feel to be the key verse in the passage you just read. Rewrite that passage in your own words.
Application: Spend a few moments committing that passage to memory. If you have not yet, sign-up for the weekly Scripture Memory email to be sent to your Inbox.
